Excuse my amateur techniques of altering pictureRecently I have reverted my Chinese name from 玲慧 to 凌慧. Well, when it is being reverted means that it was what used to be until it was changed to the other one due to
then a valid reason to do so. I liked my original name because though it sounded common, the actual word was not :) until it was changed..
It happened more than 15years ago when I was in primary school that my mum changed her mind of my Chinese name and my sis’ too. After consulting some
aunties in our neighbourhood, she was convinced that my sis and I were given an
inappropriate name! According to the Chinese calendar, I was born in the year of goat, hence, name with ‘
strokes of water’ (the side strokes of 凌) is a big no-no. So from then I used 玲慧. My sis was given a new name too based on the same basis. With these new names, our destinies were believed to be harmonious with the mystical cosmic belief.
Now that I have grown up, having faith beyond what my
appropriate name can do to me. I decided to revert back to 凌慧. My sis reverted back too, simply because the former one was easier to write than the latter one (she's almost a Chinese-illiterate). Thank GOD my mum has a renewed faith too, that she wouldn't worry that we reverted the decision on names. I liked 凌 all along :)
Why I like it? Because it is from the Chinese words ‘dawn’ – a new start or a new beginning of a day. Not that I believe what this name could do to me, but it reminds me that there’s always a new start as the day breaks in :)
